Precast concrete walls are made in a factory, delivered to site and fitted between posts or into a base. They go up much faster than a brick wall and need no wet trades on your plot. ConcreteSlab.co.za is a free quote service. You fill in one form and we pass your request to independent precast manufacturers, wall installers and builders in your area, who quote you directly. We do not make, sell, deliver or install walls ourselves. There is no fee and no obligation.

What precast concrete walls are

A precast wall is built from reinforced concrete panels cast in steel moulds under cover. Factory casting gives a consistent finish and steady curing, which a site pour struggles to match. The panels are then trucked to your property and lifted into place.

Most boundary systems use slotted concrete posts with panels that slide down between them. Some walls use full-height panels bolted to footings. You will hear "concrete slab wall" and "slab fencing" used for the same idea.

The wall does not replace a structural wall. It is a boundary, screen or retaining product unless an engineer designs it otherwise.

Where precast walls are used

Precast walls suit sites where speed and security count. Typical uses include:

  • Boundary walls: homes, complexes and smallholdings.
  • Security walls: schools, depots and industrial yards.
  • Screen and garden walls: patios, pool areas and bin enclosures.
  • Retaining walls: low walls only, and always to an engineer's design.

Panels come in plain, textured and brick-pattern finishes. Many manufacturers also offer a smooth, paintable face.

Foundations, posts and your plan approval

A precast wall is only as good as the footing under it. Posts are normally set in concrete foundations, and the depth depends on wall height, wind exposure and soil. Expansive clays on the Highveld can heave a light footing, and collapsible sands need proper compaction first.

Check with your municipality before you order. A boundary wall higher than the local limit usually needs plans approved, and some estates and heritage areas have their own rules. Walls over 1.8 m high often need extra care with posts and footings.

Panels are heavy. Make sure a truck, and a crane or hiab if one is used, can reach the line of the wall.

What affects your quote

People search for a precast concrete walls price list, but a fair price depends on your site. We never give prices here. Suppliers will look at:

  • The total length and height of the wall.
  • Panel finish, post type and any capping.
  • Corners, gates, steps in ground level and curves.
  • Footing work, excavation and rock or hard ground.
  • Delivery distance, offloading and supply only versus supply and installation.

A simple sketch with measurements helps suppliers quote properly.

Comparing precast concrete walls quotes

Concrete products are priced on the detail, so compare like with like. When quotes arrive, check:

  • Exact product: the strength class, size, grade or reference number, and that it meets the relevant SANS standard.
  • Quantity and minimums: the unit (m³, m², sheets, bags or panels), any minimum order and part-load charges.
  • Delivery: the delivery fee, the truck size, offloading and whether the site can take the truck.
  • VAT and validity: whether VAT is included, how long the price holds and the lead time.

What to include in your request

  • Give the total wall length and the height you want.
  • Describe the ground: flat, sloping, rocky or sandy.
  • Say whether you want supply only or installation too.
  • Mention gates, corners and any steps in the ground level.
  • Name your town and whether a truck or crane can reach the line.

Frequently asked questions

Does ConcreteSlab.co.za sell or install precast concrete walls?
No. ConcreteSlab.co.za is a free quote service. You send one request and we pass it to independent precast manufacturers, wall installers and builders near you. They contact you directly with a quote. We do not make, sell, deliver or install anything, and there is no obligation.
How long does a precast wall take to put up?
Once the footings have cured, a small crew can often fit a standard residential boundary in a few days. Brick takes far longer. Lead time depends on the manufacturer's stock and your distance from the factory, so ask each supplier when they can deliver.
Do I need plans approved for a precast wall?
Often, yes, if the wall is above the height your municipality allows without approval. Rules differ between towns and estates. Ask the municipality or your body corporate first, and tell suppliers about any limits when you request quotes.
Can I find precast wall suppliers in Pretoria or near me?
Yes. Tell us your town and the wall length and height, and manufacturers and installers who serve your area will reply. Many are based in and around Gauteng, but delivery to other provinces is common. Ask each one about transport and offloading.
